Once inspiration delivers the idea, one of the first steps to installing a garden after a little clean-up is to lay it out on the soil. Chalk, strings, stakes and flags are useful tools to transfer the idea onto the land. Chalk marks out this simple lavender parterre garden. A fountain will highlight the circular area seen in the middle of the layout and provide a focal point. The pathway down the middle and to the sides divide the four beds of the parterre.
Circles inscribed in the middle of each bed mark the location for fragrant citrus trees planted in terra cotta pots.
Once the lay out is reviewed and adjusted, the garden is ready to be filled in.
