The Town and Country Garden developed from the desire to capture the mood of the country setting, while being close to the cultural and economic sensibilities of the city. Sweeping pools of lawn and picket fences accented by overflowing borders of perennial blooms, vine-covered arbors, birdbaths and benches best describe this romantic garden style. Color, foliage, and soft massing can be found along the meandering pathways that lead through loose perennial drifts of the English style borders. Rose, Lily, Lavender, Lilac, Iris and Honeysuckle are plants often found in this composition. To these, Wisteria, Sage, Penstemon, and Daisy are added to create the borders that are popular to so many of our hedgerow cottages and Victorian style architecture. A loose organization of profuse color, fragrance and foliage most accurately describes the Town and Country Garden. Click on thumbnails to view larger Images |
