An entryway is a transition between two spaces, and incorporates elements of both. These two spaces can be the residence and the grounds, the main garden and a courtyard, or the street and the garden or landscape.

Entryways are designed for convenient access, and use forms and materials that lead the eye to the destination. Examples of entryways could be a gracious flagstone walk to the main entry of the house, or an archway cut into a courtyard wall.
