Driveways and motorcourts Landscapes by Davids

A driveway provides vehicular access to a residence or building from a public way. The driveway often ends in a garage or motorcourt to accommodate parking, Elements such as a circular drive or a hammerhead turn-around allow traffic to circulate. Near the residence, driveways and motorcourts should relate to the overall architecture, and should involve greater detail and integrity of design. The driveway and motorcourt are large-scale elements and careful consideration is needed to create a pleasing design that is also functional.

Driveway paving needs to be durable and the choice of materials should reflect the proposed use. Frequently used drives may employ concrete, asphalt, or chip seal surfacing, while secondary drive surfaces may be turf paver, decomposed granite, gravel or soil. Surfacing can be combined to create interesting patterns and textures, while accommodating the hierarchy of uses.
