Landscapes by Davids.

Arbors are built to provide shelter and structure in the garden. Arbors have four or more posts or columns that support an overhead lattice canopy. Column posts are often constructed of wood, steel or masonry. The canopy is a layering of beams, joists, and lattice constructed of wood or steel. The architectural detail or style expressed by an arbor may be formal or informal. It may be simple and organic, made out of tree branches or more elaborate with stone, stucco and rough-sawn timbers. Iron hardware secures the arbor and is another opportunity for detailing. Garden elements such as a patio, pool, spa, barbecue or specialty garden become protected destinations when associated with an arbor. Shadows from the overhead framework provide partial shade. Flowering or fruiting vines can cover the arbor and offer additional shade, beauty, fragrance and produce. Under the arbor is a wonderful destination to spend the afternoon reading, napping or having lunch with friends.
