The Potage Garden is our connection to the earth and it's bounty. Fruits, vegetables, flowers and herbs all taste better and greater satisfiy our soul and senses when they are grown in our own garden. Santa Barbara's year round growing season allows many possibilities.
Fruit trees ladened with Citrus, Apple, Avocado, Plum, Peach, Cheromoya, Sapota, Fig, Apricot and Nectarine are best planted near or amongst the kitchen garden for easy harvest. Vegetables grow all year. Cool season Salad Mix, Broccoli, Kale, Onion, Chard, Cabbage and fragrant Stock fill the winter vegetable garden. Warm season Tomatoes, Peppers, Eggplant, Peas, Beans, and sumptuous Sweet Corn are served at summer tables accented with fresh boquets of cut flowers. Herbs add spice for flavor and interest. Rosemary, Oregano, Tarragon, Parsley, Sage, Lemon Balm, Basil, Savory, Dill, Salad Burnett, Thyme, Sweet Marjoram, Mint and Fennel can all be grown and used fresh or dried, Many Herbs are also beautiful plants and may be arranged formally or informally in the herb bed.
